ATTIRE & DRESS CODE

FOR THE BEACH EPISODE ATTIRE & DRESS CODE GUIDELINES, PLEASE CLICK HERE.

Kawacon is an all-ages, family-friendly anime and gaming convention. We encourage creativity, cosplay, and themed outfits. But all attire must remain appropriate for a public, shared environment.

These guidelines apply to all Kawacon events and spaces, including the exhibit hall, panels, main stage, after-parties, and any official programming.

This document also includes special guidance for this year’s theme: "The Beach Episode."

Kawacon Staff, Security, and Venue Staff have final say on all attire decisions.

General Dress Code

Minimum Coverage Requirements

All attendees must keep the following areas fully covered at all times:

  • Private areas (front)

  • Backside (full coverage required)

  • Chest area (must be fully covered)

Coverage must be:

  • Made with solid, non-see-through material

  • Secure and not likely to shift or expose during movement

Not Allowed

  • Thongs or G-strings

  • Clothing that exposes the backside or private areas

  • Pasties without additional proper coverage

  • Body paint used as clothing

  • Outfits that may lead to accidental exposure

Rule of thumb: If your outfit cannot properly cover private areas while walking, bending, sitting, or posing, it is not allowed.

Clothing Materials & Fit

  • Clothing must not be see-through over covered areas

  • Avoid flesh-colored outfits that give the appearance of nudity

  • Clothing should not clearly outline private areas

  • Undergarments should not be worn as the main visible outfit unless properly covered

Footwear Requirement

Shoes are required at all times in convention spaces.

Acceptable:

  • Sandals

  • Flip-flops

  • Sneakers

  • Boots

  • Water shoes

Not allowed:

  • Bare feet

  • Painted-on clothing effects without proper garments

Realistic Impersonation

  • Outfits that could be mistaken for real law enforcement, military, or emergency personnel

Cosplay Guidelines

  • All cosplays must follow these dress code rules

  • Accuracy to a character does not override policy

  • Revealing costumes must be adjusted to comply

Staff may ask you to:

  • Add coverage

  • Wear a cover-up

  • Change outfits

Please plan ahead and bring alternatives if needed.

Safety & Practicality

All outfits must be safe and manageable in a crowded environment:

  • No wardrobe malfunctions

  • No tripping hazards

  • Do not block walkways or exits

  • Large or complex costumes require a handler
